Matthew Henry Commentary Luke 8:1-3

"And it came to pass soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good tidings of the kingdom of God, and with him the twelve, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary that was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuzas Herod`s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered unto them of their substance." — Luke 8:1-3 (ASV)

We are told here that Christ's constant focus in life was teaching the gospel. The news of the kingdom of God is good news, and this is what Christ came to bring. Certain women attended him and provided for him from their own resources. This showed the humble state to which the Saviour humbled himself, in that he needed their kindness, and it also showed his great humility, in that he accepted it. Though rich, yet for our sakes he became poor.
