Matthew Henry Commentary

Matthew Henry Commentary
"Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding-place of the young lions, where the lion [and] the lioness walked, the lion`s whelp, and none made them afraid? The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey, and his dens with ravin. Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions; and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard." — Nahum 2:11-13 (ASV)
The kings of Assyria had long been terrible and cruel to their neighbors, but the Lord would destroy their power.
Many plead as an excuse for plunder and fraud that they have families to provide for; but what is obtained in this way will never do them any good. Those who fear the Lord and honestly acquire what they have will not lack for themselves and their families. God is just to deprive those of children, or of comfort in them, who engage in sinful practices to enrich themselves.
Those who have spoken disrespectfully of God are not worthy to be heard again.
Let us then come to God upon his mercy-seat, so that, having peace with him through our Lord Jesus Christ, we may know that he is for us and that all things shall work together for our everlasting good.
