Matthew Henry Commentary

Matthew Henry Commentary
"It is as sport to a fool to do wickedness; And [so is] wisdom to a man of understanding. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him; And the desire of the righteous shall be granted. When the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more; But the righteous is an everlasting foundation. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him. The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; But the years of the wicked shall be shortened." — Proverbs 10:23-27 (ASV)
We ought to have some work to do in this world, and not to live in idleness, nor to interfere in matters we do not understand. We must be diligent and make an effort. Let us do what we can. Still, worldly security cannot be guaranteed to us, and therefore we must choose a more lasting portion. But by God's blessing upon our honest labors, we may expect to enjoy as many earthly blessings as are good for us.
