SCRIPTURE

"Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way, And he will exalt thee to inherit the land: When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. But one passed by, and, lo, he was not: Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; For there is a [happy] end to the man of peace. As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together; The end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them; He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them, Because they have taken refuge in him." — Psalms 37:34-40 (ASV)

Duty is ours, and we must attend to it; but events are God's, and we must entrust their outcome to Him. What a striking picture is presented in Psalm 37:35-36 of many a prosperous enemy of God! But God remarkably thwarts the plans of the prosperous wicked, especially persecutors.

None are perfect in themselves, but believers are so in Christ Jesus. If all a saint's days continue dark and cloudy, his dying day may prove comfortable, and his sun set bright; or, if it should set under a cloud, his future state will nevertheless be everlasting peace. The salvation of the righteous will be the Lord's doing.

He will help them to do their duties and to bear their burdens; help them to bear their troubles well and derive good from them; and, in due time, deliver them from their troubles. Let sinners, then, depart from evil and do good; repent of and forsake sin, and trust in the mercy of God through Jesus Christ. Let them take His yoke upon them and learn of Him, so that they may dwell forevermore in heaven.

Let us mark the closing scenes of different individuals and always depend on God's mercy.
