Thomas Aquinas Commentary Jeremiah 9:22

"Speak, Thus saith Jehovah, The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman; and none shall gather [them]." — Jeremiah 9:22 (ASV)

1. Here, he speaks of their punishment with regard to the bodies themselves which remained unburied: as grass, which is neglected by the reaper as something of little value. Their dead bodies have become like dung in the midst of the streets (Isaiah 5:25).
