SCRIPTURE

"They hunt our steps, so that we cannot go in our streets: Our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come." — Lamentations 4:18 (ASV)

Second, he excludes help from their own forces: our steps have slipped, as if from weakness we could not stand firmly, and as if the roads were dark and slippery. Let their way become dark and slippery; and let the angel of the Lord pursue them (Psalms 34:6). Their way shall be as a slippery way in the dark (Jeremiah 23:12). And therefore, our end draws near, namely, our captivity or death; and finally, our days are fulfilled. The end is come, the end is come (Ezekiel 7:2).
