Beautiful Gates

English

Primary Scripture: Isaiah 60:11

Verse 1

Thou dear Jerusalem on high, Sweet city of my God; My happy home beyond the sky, The home of my dear Lord. No setting sun is known to thee, No evening’s chilly air; The Lord, our God, thy light shall be, The Lord of light is there.

Chorus

Oh, beautiful the gates so fair! When shall, when shall I enter there? And stand within those pearly gates, Those pearly gates so fair.

Verse 2

Dear happy home, no earthly song Can reach thy joyous strain; But when I mingle with thy throng, I shall not try in vain. Outside thy gates my earthly joys I’ll leave and break the cup, Till I’ll befit the marriage feast When with my Lord I sup.

Chorus

Oh, beautiful the gates so fair! When shall, when shall I enter there? And stand within those pearly gates, Those pearly gates so fair.

Verse 3

When the great bands of Christ’s full love Shall compass all my soul, Then earthly ties shall snap like thread, And lose their whole control. Seen in the light of Christ’s great love, The loves of earth shall fade; From pattern for an humble suit Can heav’nly robes be made.

Chorus

Oh, beautiful the gates so fair! When shall, when shall I enter there? And stand within those pearly gates, Those pearly gates so fair.
