O Lord, While We Confess

Verse 1

O Lord, while we confess the worth Of this, the outward seal, Teach us the truths herein set forth, Our very own to feel.

Verse 2

Death to the world we here avow, Death to each fleshly lust; Newness of life our portion now, A risen Lord our trust.

Verse 3

And we, O Lord, who now partake Of your eternal life, With every sin, for your dear sake, Would be at constant strife.

Verse 4

Baptized into the Father’s name, We walk as heirs of God; Baptized in yours, with joy we claim The merits of your blood.

Verse 5

Baptized into the Holy Ghost, We prove his mighty pow’r, And making you our only boast, Obey you hour by hour.
