Only a Doorkeeper

Fanny J. Crosby • English

Primary Scripture: Psalm 64:10

Verse 1

Only a doorkeeper though I may be, Here in Thy temple, if waiting on Thee, Lord, I am honored, tho' humble the place, Meekly receiving Thy dews of grace.

Chorus

Waiting, waiting, just outside the door; Waiting, waiting, Lord, I ask no more; Only a doorkeeper gladly I’ll be, If I may gather a soul for Thee.

Verse 2

Only a doorkeeper, yet to my heart Gently Thy Spirit a word may impart; Something that, spoken in kindness for Thee, Light to a soul in the dark may be.

Chorus

Waiting, waiting, just outside the door; Waiting, waiting, Lord, I ask no more; Only a doorkeeper gladly I’ll be, If I may gather a soul for Thee.

Verse 3

Only a doorkeeper, praying for all, Sharing the crumbs from Thy table that fall; Only a doorkeeper; Lord, I am blest; Duty is pleasure, and toil is rest.

Chorus

Waiting, waiting, just outside the door; Waiting, waiting, Lord, I ask no more; Only a doorkeeper gladly I’ll be, If I may gather a soul for Thee.
