Sunshine and Shadow

E. S. Lorenz • English

Primary Scripture: Proverbs 4:11

Verse 1

When I walked with my Lord in the sunshine, His companionship was sweet; Then I wandered with Him in the shadow, And my joy was made complete.

Chorus

Ev’rywhere, dark or fair, Where my Savior leads me, will I gladly go; Up on the mountain, down in the valley, Ev’ry step he leads me, richer grace doth show.

Verse 2

When I stood on the mount in the sunshine, Felt I strong to walk alone; Then I groped in the gloom of the valley, And my helplessness was shown.

Chorus

Ev’rywhere, dark or fair, Where my Savior leads me, will I gladly go; Up on the mountain, down in the valley, Ev’ry step he leads me, richer grace doth show.

Verse 3

When I walked with my Lord in the sunshine, With my love was mingled pride; When the dark shadows fell, I was humbled, And my love was purified.

Chorus

Ev’rywhere, dark or fair, Where my Savior leads me, will I gladly go; Up on the mountain, down in the valley, Ev’ry step he leads me, richer grace doth show.

Verse 4

Oh, how precious the walk in the darkness! Oh, how dear the hours of pain, When the Saviour is walking beside me, Making loss supremest gain.

Chorus

Ev’rywhere, dark or fair, Where my Savior leads me, will I gladly go; Up on the mountain, down in the valley, Ev’ry step he leads me, richer grace doth show.
