The Dying Love of Christ, Constraining to Thankful Devotion

Anne Steele • English

Primary Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Verse 1

See, Lord, thy willing subjects bow, Adoring low before thy throne; Accept our humble, cheerful vow, Thou art our Sovereign, thou alone.

Verse 2

Beneath thy soul-reviving ray, Even cold afflictions wintry gloom Shall brighten into vernal day, And hopes and joys immortal bloom.

Verse 3

Smile on our souls, and bid us sing, In concert with the choir above, The glories of our Saviour King, And condescensions of his love.

Verse 4

Amazing love! that stoop'd so low, To view with pity's melting eye Vile men, deserving endless woe! Amazing love!— did Jesus die?—

Verse 5

He died, to raise to life and joy The vile, the guilty, the undone; O let his praise each hour employ, 'Till hours no more heir circles run!

Verse 6

He died!— ye seraphs, tune your songs, Resound, resound the Saviour's name: For nought below immortal tongues Can ever reach the wonderous theme.
