The King, in thy strength

Primary Scripture: Psalm 21

Verse 1

The king, in thy strength, Is joyful, O Lord; In thy saving health Doth greatly rejoice.

Verse 2

His heart's pious wishes Thou dost him afford; And hast not witholden The suit of his voice,

Verse 3

With blessings of good, Thou dost him prevent; And fix on his head A crown of pure gold.

Verse 4

When life he requested, Kind answer thou sent; And length of days gav'st him, Which never grow old.

Verse 5

Salvations so great Have spread wide his fame; High honors him clothed, And majesty crowned.

Verse 6

Thou didst him forever Most blessed proclaim; And make him most glad, with Thy beams shining round.

Verse 7

The king, in the Lord, His trust doth repose; The favor of God Confirms his high state.

Verse 8

Thy hand shall discover, And punish thy foes: Thy right hand, in vengeance, Crush them that thee hate.

Verse 9

As furnace of fire, Thy wrath shall them make; Thine anger, O Lord, Consume them in flames.

Verse 10

Their fruit from earth's surface, Thou wholly shalt take; And root out from mankind, Their seed's hateful names.

Verse 11

For evil they thought, And mischief devised; Which, blasted by thee, Could never take place.

Verse 12

As marks of thy vengeance, Thou hast them surprised; And leveled thine arrows Direct at their face.

Verse 13

Exalted be God Throughout the whole land; His strength still appear, His glory to raise: So will we sing joyful The works of thy hand; And thy mighty power, Forever will praise.
