The Lamb's High Banquet We Await

J. M. Neale (1851) • English

Primary Scripture: Exodus 12:1-14

Verse 1

The Lamb's high banquet we await, In show-white robes of royal state; And now, the Red Sea's channel past, To Christ our Prince we sing at last.

Verse 2

Upon the altar of the cross, His body has redeemed our loss; And tasting of his roseate blood, Our lives are hid with him in God.

Verse 3

Protected in the Paschal night From the destroying angel's might, In triumph went the ransomed free From Pharaoh's cruel tyranny.

Verse 4

Now Christ, our Passover, is slain, The Lamb of God without a stain; His flesh, the true unleavened bread, Is freely offered in our stead.

Verse 5

O all-sufficient sacrifice! Beneath him, Hell, defeated lies: The captives set free by the Lord, Whose crowns of life have been restored.

Verse 6

We praise him, rising from the grave, From death returning, strong to save; With his right hand the tyrant chains, And Paradise for us regains.
