The Promise of Pardon

John Henry Sammis • English

Primary Scripture: Isaiah 55:7

Verse 1

We all like sheep have gone astray, We’ve turned us each to His own way; In sinful thought and word and deed! And on God’s Lamb our guilt was laid.

Chorus

Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon; Let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon.

Verse 2

O hear and heed the prophet’s cry, “Ye sons of men, why will ye die? Why do ye spend your strength for naught, For bread which satisfieth not?

Chorus

Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon; Let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon.

Verse 3

“Incline your ear and come to Me, And take salvation’s waters free; Here all your sins and sorrows cure, IN David’s mercies sweet and sure.”

Chorus

Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon; Let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon.

Verse 4

Proclaim this gospel grace to all, The thoughtless throng in pleasure’s thrall; The busy world, refined, or rude And all the sin stained brotherhood.

Chorus

Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon; Let him return unto the Lord, And He will abundantly pardon.
