Verse 1
The holy eunuch, when baptiz'd, Went on his way with joy: And who can tell what rapturous thoughts, Did then his mind employ?
Verse 2
"Is that most glorious Savior mine, "Of whom I lately read? "Who bearing all my sins and griefs, "Was number'd with the dead?
Verse 3
"Is he who bursting from the grave, "Now reigns above the sky, "My advocate before the throne, "My portion when I die?
Verse 4
"Have I profess'd his holy name? "Do I his gospel bear, "To Ethiopia's scorched lands, "And shall I spread it there?
Verse 5
Bless'd pool! in which I lately lay, "And left my fears behind; "What an unworthy wretch am I! "And God profusely kind.
Verse 6
Bless'd emblem of that precious blood "Which satisfy'd for sin; "And of that renovating grace, "Which makes the conscience clean."
Verse 7
This pattern, Lord, with sacred joy Help us to keep in view; The same our work, the same, O make Our consolation too,
