We bless Thee for this sacred day

We bless Thee for this sacred day, Thou, who hast ev'ry blessing giv'n, Which sends the cares of earth away, And yields a view of op'ning heav'n.

Verse 2

Rich day of holy, thoughtful rest! May we improve its calm repose, And in Thy service truly blest, Forget the world, its joys, its woes.

Verse 3

Lord! may Thy truth upon the heart Now fall and dwell as heav'nly dew, And flow'rs of grace in freshness start Where once the tares of error grew.

Verse 4

May pray'r that lifts us from earth's strife, Intent with one clear aim alone, Bear us to Thee, Thou Lord of Life, And rest us at Thy shelt'ring throne.
