When Jesus is Near

Verse 1

There is light among shadows and peace amid strife If our Savior treads with us the pathway of life, And tho’ danger may threaten, we never need fear, For no ill can befall us when Jesus is near.

When Jesus is near! When Jesus is near! In the soul there is sunshine and clouds disappear; When Jesus is near we are safe from all harm, As in faith we depend On His strong, loving arm.

There is no other friend who beside us can keep, If our road is ‘mong flowers or thorny and steep, And no other can utter the sweet words of cheer, Which so often are spoken when Jesus is near.

In the presence divine there is solace for grief, As the heart from each burden finds holy relief, And His tender compassion will change ev’ry tear To a smile of rejoicing when Jesus is near.
