The First day of Lent,

Almighty and everlasting God, who hates nothing that you have made¹

and does forgive the sins of all them that are penitent;²

Create and make in us new and contrite hearts,³

that we, worthily lamenting our sins,⁴

and acknowledging our wretchedness,⁵

may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.⁶
