Psalm 71
O Almighty God, and merciful Father, to whom alone belong the issues of life and death:1 Look down from heaven, we humbly beseech you, with the eyes of mercy upon this child now lying upon the bed of sickness:2
Visit him, O Lord, with your salvation; deliver him in your good appointed time from his bodily pain, and save his soul for your mercies' sake:3 That, if it shall be your pleasure to prolong his days here on earth, he may live to you, and be an instrument of your glory, by serving you faithfully, and doing good in his generation;4
or else receive him into those heavenly habitations, where the souls of those who sleep in the Lord Jesus enjoy perpetual rest and felicity. Grant this, O Lord, for your mercies' sake, in the same your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.5
