The Order for the Visitation of the Sick

17th Century
ps 51:1

O most merciful God, who, according to the multitude of your mercies, does so put away the sins of those who truly repent, that you remember them no more:1 Open your eye of mercy upon this your servant, who most earnestly desires pardon and forgiveness.2

Renew in him, most loving Father, whatever has been decayed by the fraud and malice of the devil, or by his own carnal will and frailness;3

preserve and continue this sick member in the unity of the Church;4

consider his contrition, accept his tears, assuage his pain, as shall seem to you most expedient for him.5

And forasmuch as he puts his full trust only in your mercy, impute not to him his former sins,6

but strengthen him with your blessed Spirit;7

and, when you are pleased to take him hence, take him into your favour, through the merits of your most dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.8
