The Order for the Visitation of the Sick

O most merciful God, who, according to the multitude of your mercies, does so put away the sins of those who truly repent, that you remember them no more:¹ Open your eye of mercy upon this your servant, who most earnestly desires pardon and forgiveness.²

Renew in him, most loving Father, whatever has been decayed by the fraud and malice of the devil, or by his own carnal will and frailness;³

preserve and continue this sick member in the unity of the Church;⁴

consider his contrition, accept his tears, assuage his pain, as shall seem to you most expedient for him.⁵

And forasmuch as he puts his full trust only in your mercy, impute not to him his former sins,⁶

but strengthen him with your blessed Spirit;⁷

and, when you are pleased to take him hence, take him into your favour, through the merits of your most dearly beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.⁸
