The Boomerang of Judgment

Commentators explain that King Ahab, in judging the disguised prophet, unknowingly pronounces judgment upon himself. By agreeing that the man who let his prisoner escape deserves punishment, Ahab affirms the very principle by which he will be condemned for sparing Ben-hadad. As the king says, "thyself hast decided it," ironically sealing his own fate.
