Ziklag's Return to Israel
Commentators explain that Ziklag was originally Israelite territory, assigned to the tribes of Judah and Simeon, but had been captured by the Philistines. When King Achish gave the city to David, it was returned to Israelite hands. As John Gill notes, it became a permanent possession of the royal family, or "crown lands," for the future kings of Judah.
