Joy is Communal and Inclusive

The command to rejoice wasn't just for the immediate family. Commentators stress the explicit inclusion of servants, Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows. One ancient rabbi, Rashi, noted that by making God's 'four' (the vulnerable) rejoice, God in turn makes 'your four' (your family) rejoice. True biblical joy is intentionally shared with the entire community, especially the marginalized.
