A layer of red-dyed rams' skins was covered by a final, durable layer of 'sealskins' (or 'badgers' skins'). Their primary purpose was practical: to be a rugged, weatherproof shield protecting the beautiful and sacred inner sanctuary from rain and the harsh desert environment.
