The Unbreakable Promise
While famously difficult, commentators explain this verse contrasts the Law and the Promise. The Law required a "mediator" (Moses), making it a two-sided, conditional contract between God and Israel. But the promise to Abraham came from God alone ("God is one"). As a one-sided, unconditional gift, it cannot be broken by human failure and is therefore superior to the Law for salvation.
