After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away Jesus` body. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore, and took away his body.

Courage in the Darkest Hour

Commentators emphasize the profound courage of Joseph of Arimathea. Previously a secret disciple 'for fear of the Jews,' he steps forward at the moment of greatest danger and despair. Scholars note that by asking for Jesus' body, he was publicly aligning himself with an executed 'criminal,' risking his status and safety. His actions show how faith can empower believers to be bold when it matters most.
