In response to Peter's question, Jesus describes the steward, a role commentators see as having a special application to the apostles and, by extension, all church leaders. A steward is a manager of the master's household (the church). This isn't a position of personal power, but one of delegated authority to faithfully care for God's people and manage His resources according to His will.
