A Silence of Judgment
Commentators widely agree that Jesus' silence before Herod was a deliberate act of judgment. Unlike His engagement with Pilate, Jesus offered no words to the man who had murdered John the Baptist and whose heart, as Charles Spurgeon notes, had no 'good seed' in it. This silence demonstrates that there can be a point where a hardened, unrepentant heart forfeits the privilege of hearing from God.
