A Question of Originality
Scholars, like Charles Ellicott, point out that this verse is missing from many of the oldest and most reliable manuscripts of the Gospel of Mark. It may have been a marginal note added by an early scribe to emphasize the importance of Jesus' teaching in the previous verse.
