A Shocking, Fulfilled Prophecy

Commentators stress how startling this prophecy was. The temple was a magnificent structure, seemingly permanent. Yet, within 40 years, it was utterly destroyed. Historians like Josephus, an eyewitness, record that the Roman commander Titus wanted to save the temple, but his soldiers, in a frenzy, burned and dismantled it so completely that its foundations were plowed over, literally fulfilling Jesus' words.
