Nearly every commentator highlights the profound irony of this verse. In their effort to prevent any story of a resurrection, Jesus's enemies became the most credible witnesses for it. By officially sealing the tomb and posting their own guard, they unintentionally eliminated any possibility that the disciples could have stolen the body, thereby providing powerful, independent proof that the resurrection was a supernatural act.
