All commentators agree that Aaron's act of standing between the dead and the living is a powerful foreshadowing of Jesus Christ. Just as Aaron, the high priest, stood in the gap to physically stop the plague, Christ, our great High Priest, stands between a holy God and sinful humanity. His atoning sacrifice and ongoing intercession halt the spiritual plague of eternal death for all who trust in Him.
