Commentators explain that the "wondrous things" God alone does are not just generic miracles. They point specifically to God's miraculous preservation of His promises through Israel's turbulent history and, most importantly, the singular wonder of redemption through Jesus Christ. As John Calvin notes, it was a miracle God preserved the royal line to bring forth the Messiah. John Gill adds that the work of salvation is a wonder Christ accomplished "alone."
