Luther's Small Catechism
Martin Luther penned his Small Catechism after touring local churches in Saxony and realizing, to his heartbreak, how little the common people and even the local clergy knew about the Christian faith. He designed this document to be a highly accessible, practical guide for the "head of the family" to teach theology around the dinner table.
At its core, the catechism walks through the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Sacraments. Luther's pastoral warmth shines through in his simple, memorable explanations; he repeatedly asks the reader, "What does this mean?" and answers with deeply personal reassurances of God's daily grace, protection, and provision.
