"Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?" — John 7:48 (ASV)

Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? (John 7:48)

This was essentially saying, "If we have not believed on him—we who are the great leading figures of the nation, the rulers and the Pharisees—why, then, there cannot be anything in his claims"; just as some people seem to think that unless there is a lord in a society, or some honourable person presiding, there is nothing in it.
