SCRIPTURE

"And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow, and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation." — Luke 22:45-46 (ASV)

And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

There must have been some very peculiar temptation about that night, such that Christ's disciples needed to be commanded again and again to pray this prayer.

And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Our Lord was Himself so acutely feeling the pain of fierce temptation that He wanted His disciples to pray even to the point of agony, so that they might not be led into it. And oh! If you and I have to pray that we are not led into temptation, how much more should we be fervent in supplication when we are in the furnace of temptation! Then, indeed, if we restrain prayer before God, we will be in a grave condition.
