SCRIPTURE

"And as they were eating, he took bread, and when he had blessed, he brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take ye: this is my body." — Mark 14:22 (ASV)

It was part of a meal. It was not a celebration. It was not a sacrifice, whether bloody or unbloody. It was simply a commemorative ceremony, of which He would now give them an example, even before it actually became commemorative.

As they did eat, Jesus took bread. There was no seeking for consecrated wafers or some special food, but such bread as they had been eating. He blessed it—thanking God for it. And break it and gave it to them, and said, Take, eat: this is My body.
