Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother`s womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven`s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." — Matthew 19:12 (ASV)
Some have only weak desires concerning marriage, and they were born that way. They will find it good to remain as they are. Others subdue their natural desires for holy and praiseworthy reasons, for the sake of the kingdom of heaven, but this is not for everyone, nor for many.
It is a personal choice for individuals whether to marry or not. If they marry, nature commends it, but grace is silent. If they abstain for Christ’s sake, grace commends it, and nature does not forbid it.
Enforced celibacy is a breeding ground for sins. Marriage is honorable in all. Violations of purity are abominable in the sight of the Lord.
In this matter, we need guidance and grace if we follow the usual path, and if we choose the less traveled road, we will need grace and guidance even more.
As for a resolve to persevere in a single life, He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
