The Prayer to be said before a Fight at Sea against any Enemy

O most powerful and glorious Lord God, the Lord of hosts, who rule and command all things:¹ You sit in the throne judging right, and therefore we make our address to your Divine Majesty in this our necessity, that you would take the cause into your own hand, and judge between us and our enemies.²

Stir up your strength, O Lord, and come and help us; for you give not always the battle to the strong, but can save by many or by few.³

O let not our sins now cry against us for vengeance; but hear us your poor servants begging mercy, and imploring your help, and that you would be a defence unto us against the face of the enemy.⁴

Make it appear that you are our Saviour and mighty Deliverer, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.⁵
