What "Not Worthy" Really Means
Commentators stress that "not worthy" doesn't mean the first guests lacked moral goodness, as no one is truly worthy of salvation. Instead, it refers to their prideful attitude and rebellious actions. As John Gill notes, they rejected the invitation and, in doing so, "judged themselves unworthy of eternal life." Their unworthiness was a matter of their proud rejection, not a lack of inherent value.
